How Do You Create A Startup Floppy Disk?
Floppy disk drives provide users with a secondary startup device. Floppy disks have been mostly phased out and most newer computers do not have the disk drive installed in the machine. However, older computers still have floppy disk drives available and they can provide a backup in case the hard drive should fail on the machine. Creating a startup floppy disk is accomplished in the Windows command prompt. It can be used to boot your Windows machine in case of hard drive failure. Insert the blank floppy disk into your machine’s floppy drive. Click the Windows Start button and select “Run.” Enter “cmd” into the text box and press the “OK” button. This opens the Windows command prompt. Enter “format a:” into the command prompt. This formats the floppy disk and deletes any information from the diskette.
