Self-extracting compressed files decompress themselves when double-clicked; you can send these files to people who may not have a file compression program. The PKZip self-extracting utility is available in registered and shareware versions for DOS and Windows. This procedure explains this PKZip 2.7 procedure in Windows 95 and 98. Start the PKZip program. Click on File menu, point to New, and click Self-Extracting File. Enter a file name and choose the directory in which it will be saved. Entering the file extension (.exe) is optional; the program will automatically append the extension. Click on the down arrow in the Save as Type field to select the self-extracting format.
