Relational databases are in almost every business in today’s marketplace. They store information about customers, products, suppliers, orders and transactions. The design of a model to correlate all that data is the most important part of the process. Without a well thought-out model, your database will be worthless, when it should be making your tasks easier and quicker to accomplish. Write down all the pieces of information that you have about your database. Customer names, addresses, phone numbers, products, retailers and/or suppliers are just a few of the types of data you have. Determine the relationships that exist between each of the pieces of information. By defining the relationships between each piece, it will help you when deciding how to set up lookup tables and what information you need to find.
