Here is how you can create a marble painting with your child. Lay out some newspaper. This craft is messy, and you want to protect the surface of your work area. You may also want to wear a smock or apron to protect your clothes. Get out your rectangular pan (the pan should be a little bigger than a regular-sized piece of paper) and fill it most of the way with water. In a bowl, mix your oil paint and some mineral spirits. You want the paint to be runny. Start out using only two colors of paint until you get the hang of it. Then, the next time, you can add three or four colors.
