How Do You Create A Japanese Tomato Ring?
If you would like to grow tomatoes, especially the sweet little cherry varieties, you must try these Japanese tomato rings. They take up little room, are easy to keep watered, and the tomatoes are simply TOO easy to pick and manicure! Plus you can vary the size and shape to accommodate the location and style of growing you would like to do. First build your tomato ring. Cut a section of fencing to make a circle that is approximately 3′ across.(This size can be variable – the ones in the picture are about 1 1/2 feet across, but they really need to be more for ease of maintenance – these were used for cherry tomatoes only so they were smaller.) Wire the two ends together, forming a circle. Choose a location for your tomato ring, dig a small hole in the center -about 3 inches deep, and just smaller than the ring itself. (This will aid in the retention of water as well as the nutrients coming from the compost.) Center the tomato ring over the hole and push into the soil. Fill the center of
