How Do You Create A DOS Partition Or Logical DOS Drive?
A DOS partition provides a basic file system for your hard drive. A DOS partition can host older Windows operating systems and it can be converted when you install newer versions of Windows. The DOS partition is created using an application called “fdisk.” Fdisk is included with your Windows installation CD or a boot disk. The fdisk utility is a small application that allows you to create DOS partitions and logical DOS drives or delete DOS partitions. Insert the Windows installation CD or boot disk into the computer’s drive. Reboot the machine with the boot disk in the drive. Your computer will boot directly to an installation screen if you are using a Windows CD. Press “Esc” to go to the command prompt. If you are using a boot disk, a command prompt is automatically displayed. Enter “fdisk” into the command prompt to start the application.
