Creating a DOS boot partition is a good way to insure that you’ll still be able to use your computer if something goes wrong with your operating system. A partition is a piece of available space on your hard drive that is set aside, essentially in case of emergency. If your operating system refuses to load, you can boot into the DOS boot partition and perform a system restore. You can learn to create a DOS boot partition by following a few simple steps. Step 1 Load into a DOS prompt. You can do this by selecting “Run” from the “Start” menu and typing “cmd” into the box that appears. When done, press “Enter” on your keyboard. Step 2 Type “fdisk,” without the quotation marks, into the DOS prompt. Once you’ve done this, strike the “Enter” key on your keyboard. Step 3 Strike the “Y” key on your keyboard when asked if you want to enable large disk support. Step 4 Follow the prompt that appears. By this point, MS-DOS knows exactly what you are trying to do.
