Though there are colored cotton balls for sale, sometimes the color you need isn’t available, or perhaps they are too difficult to find where you live. Whatever the reason, it is not difficult to color your own cotton balls. Choose which colors you will use to dye your cotton balls. You will need about 3 tsp of powdered tempera paint for every 10 cotton balls you want to dye. Place 10 cotton balls in the plastic zippered plastic bag and add 3 tsp. tempera paint. You need to use 100 percent cotton balls to make the brightest cotton balls. Cotton will also hold the tempera paint better. You can mix the paints if you wish, or just use one color.
