How Do You Cover Drywall Screws With Mud?
Once you have hung drywall your next step is to cover drywall screws with mud. Once you do this and prepare the seams you will have a nice flat wall to paint. First take the drywall knife and run it over the screw head to make sure it is below the surface of the drywall. If it isn’t take a screwdriver and tighten it until the head of the screw is below the the surface of the drywall. Next take the drywall knife and smear a thin even coat of drywall mud on the wall to cover the drywall screws. Use only a small amount of drywall mud, you do not want to create a lump on the wall. Let the drywall mud dry overnight. As it drys it will contract and shrink slightly. The next day use the drywall knife to cover drywall screws with mud again. Repeat this process at least three times. Once the last coat of drywall mud is dry sand the surface over the drywall screw flat with either drywall sandpaper or a sanding sponge.
