You can cover decorative hat boxes with a little imagination and a few simple supplies. Your revamped hat box can be cute and simple, lush and elaborate or it can even blend into your existing décor depending on the type of fabric you choose. Measure your hat box. Use a tape measure to gauge the size of the top of the lid, the height and width of the lid’s lip and the length of the box’s bottom. Pick your fabric. Any type of fabric can be used to cover a hat box, as long as it’s not too thick to impede with the lid closing. Fabric should also be more or less opaque so that none of the original hat box design shows through. Good choices include a thin velvet or brocade.
