How Do You Cover College Teams As A Sports Broadcaster?
Sports broadcasters have a lot on their plates. They have to cover local teams, college teams and professional sports. Often, there are only two or three people in the sports department to handle shooting, editing and broadcasting everything they gather. Make contact with college coaches and the athletic directors before the start of the season. Arrange to have them call with scores after games. Get a copy of the schedule and team roster. You’ll need both to effectively cover the college teams. Arrange to attend a practice to get a preseason sports story. Shoot video of the team practicing, and get sound with several of the key players. Spread out the video and sound bites you gathered. They don’t need to air in one sportscast.
