Self injury has become prevalent in today’s youth, particularly teenage girls. Although there are many reasons why someone would choose to harm themselves, and there ARE some people who would do it simply for attention, the majority of self injurers would prefer to keep it a secret. The two biggest reasons people self inflict injury upon themselves are depression and/or a need for control in their lives. Here are some safe alternatives that I learned from experts, which you can use for relief when you feel like you want to harm yourself. Ice – Get an ice cube from the freezer and hold it in the palm of your hand. Squeeze it tightly in your fist until it either melts all away or your hand goes numb. If you want you can repeat this with the other hand, and just keep alternating hands until you feel better.
