How Do You Cope After Gallbladder Surgery?
Gallbladder removal surgery may help with related pain and abdominal discomfort, but taking care of your body after the surgery is the key to truly feeling well again. Diet, rest and time are the best cure for any symptoms you may have after the surgery is over. Rest after the surgery and take your pain medication as directed by the doctor. After the first 3 to 5 days you may not need it and can cut back to normal, over-the-counter Tylenol. If you still feel discomfort, however, keep taking the prescribed pain medication. Avoid taking pain medication such as Aleve, Advil, or Ibruprofen which can irritate the stomach. Ask a friend or relative to stay with you for the first 3 days up to a week. You may need help sitting down, getting in and out of bed, or climbing stairs. Don’t exert yourself too much and avoid stretching and bending motions that put pressure on your stomach. Listen to your body. If it hurts, don’t do it. Follow your doctor’s recommendations for eating after surgery. Sta
