How Do You Cook With Kids Underfoot?
For many parents, trying to prepare a meal and cook with kids underfoot at the same time can quickly turn into a stressful experience. If your kids are too young to participate in meal preparations, there are a few things you can do to keep them occupied in the kitchen as you cook. Designate a drawer or cupboard just for your kids. Fill it with miscellaneous toys, such as puzzles, crayons and blocks to keep little hands busy. Likewise, utilize what’s already in your kitchen. Let them stack canned goods or transfer dry cereal between plastic bowls. Give your kids a pot and wooden spoon so they can pretend to help you cook. Talk about what you are fixing. Provide them with a kid-friendly cookbook that contains pictures of children preparing food. Let them decorate the refrigerator or other magnetic surface, such as a dishwasher or cookie sheet, with magnets. Strap them in. Sometimes your little ones just want to see what’s going on. If your kids are not big enough to stand on a step stoo
