Microsoft’s Windows Media Player uses the Windows Media Audio (WMA) file format as its proprietary sound and music container. WMAs closely resemble the more prevalent MP3 file format, but they lack the wide compatibility of that file format. In order to use WMA files outside of Windows and Windows-based applications, you may need to convert your WMAs into another format; luckily, many online conversion tools can perform that service for no charge.
