If you have a device that requires a serial port, but a computer that provides only USB ports, you can convert the USB port to a serial port using a specially-designed cable. Connect the USB end of the USB-to-RS-232 adapter cable into an empty USB port on the computer. The RS-232 end of the cable is left open. Place the CD that came with the USB-to-RS-232 adapter cable in the computer’s CD drive. The computer should recognize the CD and open the driver configuration wizard automatically.
