According to the MIDI Manufacturers Association, Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) is a set of “performance instructions and not a digital version of a sound recording.” In its own unique language, a MIDI file tells you “what notes are to be played and for how long, as well as the tempo, which instruments are to be played, and at what relative volumes.” Converting an audio file to MIDI is simple. You’ll need to download a program to convert music to MIDI. Download, install and open WIDI Recognition System Professional (see Resources). Click in the box next to “Transcribe Pre-recorded MP3, Wave or CD,” and click the “Next” button. Click the “Browse” button.
