Being able to read standard music notes is a great skill to have as a musician. Even if you can read music, other people in your band or group may not be able to read it. Tablature, which is often referred to as “tab,” is another way of reading music that is a little more common, especially among people who play stringed instruments. If you know a mandolin player who can read tab but not music notes, you may need to convert a song into tab for him. Print some blank tab paper (see resource section). Isolate and identify each music note in the song. Transfer each note to the tab sheet by placing it on the correct line and using the correct number.
