Rifle scopes that are used for ranging distance all share one common trait: They give you the tools to calculate distance in meters. Mil-dot rifle scopes work best for determining range; they are identifiable by the series of tick-marks (or dots) visible along the scope cross hairs. To accurately estimate range, you must learn how to read these tick-marks, learn a simple equation that provides you with range in meters and be able to convert that answer into your preferred unit of measure.
