The Portable Document Format (PDF) was originally created by Adobe in the early 1990s to provide a common document file format that could be used on computers running different operating systems. The PDF format has since become an open-stand file document description. Prior to the PDF format being recommended by the ISO (a major standardization foundation), using Adobe products was the only means to convert HTML files to PDF format.
