The AVI file format is designed to be viewed on a computer. A VCD, or Video CD, is a CD that contains a video file. It can be viewed by placing it in the computer’s CD Rom drive or in a DVD player that supports VCDs. The Linux operating system has multiple software utilities that can convert an AVI video to a VCD. Three graphical utilities are WinFF, Avidemux and DeVeDe. Each of these programs is open source and freely available to download. Download and install WinFF. The software can be installed from your distribution’s software repository or it can be installed directly from the WinFF website (see Resources). Open the WinFF program. It is found under the “Sound and Video” section of the “Applications” menu. Click the “Add” button. Browse to the location of the “.avi” file that you want to convert and press the “Open” button.
