The Windows operating system does not come with the ability to create ISO disk image files right out of the box. Luckily, there are a number of free, legal utilities (called “open source” utilities) that can be used to do just that. You will need to download one of these utilities if you want to take an ISO video file on your computer and convert it to the ISO file format for archival purposes. Use 7-Zip (see References). This program is a multifunctional utility that will be able to create not only ISO archive files out of your AVI files, but also other types of archives as well, such as the ZIP and RAR formats. Versions of 7-Zip are available that are optimized for both 32-bit versions and 64-bit versions of the Windows operating system. Seven-Zip can create as well as extract these ISO archive files.
