Files with a “.wpd” file extension were most likely created with WordPerfect. This word processor format can easily be converted to Microsoft Word. All of the text and fonts should convert easily, as these elements are universal, but depending on the versions of WordPerfect and MS Word, some of the more advanced formatting may be lost in the conversion. There are other programs that create files with “.wpd” extensions, but these are old version of software that is not commonly used. These files can not be converted to MS Word. Open MS Word on your computer. Click “File” in the menu bar and then click “Open…” Click the drop-down arrow in the “Files of type…” list at the bottom of the window. Scroll through the list and select the most recent version of WordPerfect available. In MS Word 2003, this will be “WordPerfect 6.x.” Navigate through the folders in the “Open” window until you locate and select the “.wpd” file you wish to convert. Click the “Open” button.
