The sweet potato whitefly, also known as Bemisia tabaci, is found around the world, although it is believed to be native to India. It is thought that they spread around the world, through the transport of plants that were infested with the whiteflies. Adult sweet potato whiteflies look like miniature moths covered with a white powder. Check your plants for sweet potato whitefly infestation. There are many host plants for the sweet potato whitefly, so you could find them pretty much anywhere. The first sign you usually see is small white moths resting on the leaves. If the leaf is disturbed, the whiteflies rise up into the air and then settle back on the leaf. Look at the underside of the plant leaves to see where the pupae are concentrated the thickest. You may need to use a magnifier glass to look at the bottom of the leaves. The pupae look like scales on the underside of the plant leaf.
