Are you troubled by Japanese beetles destroying your prized roses or other plants but don’t want to use harmful chemicals to control them? Read on for an easy way to rid yourself of these pests. Take a shop-vac to the site of the infestation. I use a small one because it is easier to handle but a large one will do if it’s all you have available. Run an extension cord(s) to the area and plug in the shop-vac. Allow yourself some extra cord so you have enough cord to manuever around the plants. Turn the shop-vac on and vacuum the bugs off of the plants. In the beginning you may lose a few leaves until you get the knack of how far away to hold the hose to vacuum off the bugs without taking the leaves along. Empty the shop-vac into a garbage bag and immediately close it tightly. I use grocery bags and knot them shut before disposing of them.
