How Do You Construct Rubber Band Cars?
A rubber band car is a simple toy that takes advantage of the stored energy in a wound rubber band to propel the car. As the rubber band unwinds, it turns the rear axle of the car. This, in turn, drives the rear tires that move the car. Construction is relatively simple and all of the parts for a rubber band car can be bought at a craft store. This is a good project to teach kids about physics and to make a toy that doesn’t require a battery to work. Step 1 Drive the brad into one end of the basswood block. This will be at the front of the car, once assembled. Step 2 Align the two strips of basswood and drill a hole through the one-inch side of the strips at each end. Step 3 Separate the strips. Apply glue to the 1/2″ sides of the basswood block and glue the strips to it, allowing equal the ends of the strips to extend equally beyond the ends of the block. Allow the glue to dry completely.
