How Do You Construct A Plant Cell Model?
Cell studies are common in science classes all over America. Students are often asked to make plant cell models as class projects. This gelatin cell model is quick, easy, accurate and edible. The model can be made in class or at home by an individual or study group. Line the plastic container with plastic wrap. A plant cell has both a cell wall and a cell membrane. The container is the rigid cell wall and the plastic wrap is the flexible cell membrane. Mix the hot water and gelatin according to the package directions. Pour into the prepared container and allow to cool until room temperature but not set. The gelatin is the cell’s cytoplasm. Add fruit and vegetable pieces to the cell model to represent organelles. A plum can be the nucleus while the mandarin oranges are the mitochondria. The carrot slices are the Golgi bodies and the peas or grapes can be the chloroplasts.
