Although PVC pipes and ABS pipes are both plastic, most local plumbing codes do not allow the two to be solvent-wielded (glued) together as the cement used to wield the materials are created specifically for each plastic type. To properly connect the two pipe types you will need to use transition coupling. Transition coupling is the use of a neoprene rubber sleeve secured with a steel jacket, specially designed for creating a seal between different pipe types. The seal created is just as tight as that created from solvent-wielding plastic pipes together, but the pipes must be of the same diameter. Measure the diameter of your pipes and purchase a transition coupling for the specific pipe size. Couplings are intended for joining pipes of the same size.
