How Do You Connect A Solar Panel To A Car Battery?
Solar power can provide you with light, utility and entertainment in any location, lending itself particularly well to a rural or “off-the-grid” setting. Although deep-cell batteries are recommended for long-term solar use, car batteries can be temporarily used, in limited capacity, to store the captured energy. Measure the distance from the power terminals of your solar panel to where your battery and solar charger will be located. Cut a section of both red and black wire to span this measured distance. Strip away, using a pair of wire strippers, 1/4-inch of insulation from one end of both the black and red wires, and 1/2-inch of insulation on the other ends of both wires. Loosen the wire terminal screws on the solar panel. Slide or wrap the 1/4-inch stripped wire ends into or around the wire post, connecting the black wire to the negative (-) terminal and the red wire to the positive (+) terminal. Depending on your panel’s type of wire connectors, it may be either a post or a block.
