Hard drives are essential to almost any computer. There are a few different standards used by manufacturers, including the two most popular: IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) and SATA (Serial ATA). Although they use different connectors and data transfer cables, you can hook up drives of both types to your computer at the same time. The process is fairly easy in most computers and motherboards and the drives should work together well. Turn off your computer. Unplug the power cord. Open the case and locate the power supply.
