How Do You Connect A GFCI Breaker?
A ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) breaker detects any small difference between the current flowing from the breaker through the circuit and the current returning from the circuit to to the breaker. A difference in these two currents indicates a hazardous condition, and the breaker automatically trips, turning off power to the circuit. A GFCI breaker protects an entire circuit from shorts, useful for circuits wired outdoors or underground. Installation of a GFCI breaker is very similar to installation of a standard breaker. Turn off power to electrical panel. If you have a main breaker at the top of the panel (labeled “Main”), switch it to the off position. If you don’t have a main breaker in your panel, then you are working in a subpanel, and you must locate the main panel and disconnect service to the subpanel in which you are working. Often, the main panel is located outside the house, near the electric meter. Remove the face of the electrical panel by removing the screws hol
