A flat-screen monitor for computer use can be connected to a laptop or notebook computer for viewing different content on two screens simultaneously, or to use the laptop while closed and connected to a docking station with attached monitor and keyboard to minimize wear on the laptop screen and keyboard. Virtually all laptops are equipped with a video graphics array (VGA) port for connecting an external monitor. A VGA cable is the only hardware needed to make the connection. Shut down the computer and turn off the flat-screen monitor while connecting the cable. Attach one end of a VGA cable to the laptop’s “VGA OUT” port with the wider end of the plug turned upward.
