How Do You Configure Router For Wireless Network?
Routers are commonly used to provide multiple network connections for cable Internet or DSL service. Many routers contain wired Ethernet ports that a computer with a wired network adapter can simply plug into. However, when attempting to use a router to build a wireless network, the router must be configured to accept incoming wireless connections. Open the computer’s web browser program. Enter the router IP address (typically “192.168.1.1”) into the address bar. When prompted, enter the username and password supplied in the router owner’s manual. Set the SSID (wireless network name) to something other than the default SSID. Change the router password. Select wireless encryption (WEP or WPA), and choose a passphrase for wireless access. Write this passphrase down and store it in a safe place. Save the router settings, and close the web browser window.
