MacTheRipper is a free Macintosh program that can convert the contents of an entire DVD into digital files on a Mac’s hard drive. MacTheRipper is also designed to save individual video sections off a DVD–making it well worthwhile to have when you want to convert a family movie that was saved on a DVD back into individual files for playing on an iPod. Configuring MacTheRipper so that it saves individual files off the DVD can be done in a few minutes. The process will not harm the DVD. Download and install MacTheRipper to the Macintosh’s hard drive (see the link in Resources below). Run MacTheRipper. Press the “Eject” key on the Mac’s keyboard to eject the DVD drive’s disc tray.
