How Do You Condition Players For Basketball?
Basketball is a very hard sport to train for because no exercise can simulate the stop-and-go action that occurs within a basketball game; however, there are many exercises that, when used in conjunction with one another, can help train players for basketball. Have half of the team line up at the baseline and the other half of the team go to the side of the basketball court and get a jump rope. When the whistle is blown the players on the basketball court begin to jog from baseline to baseline on the basketball court, while the other half of the team jumps rope — they will jump rope until the players on the court are done with their drill. The players jogging on the court will listen to commands given by the coach as they jog up and down the court; for instance, the coach can tell them to jump in place, skip, do high knees or sprint, so the players will have to do the assigned task until the coach tells them to stop at which point they will continue to jog again.
