This article tells you only how I approach helping my parents and other people needing help. By no means is this the only way to help. I do feel, however, that by using love, compassion and paying attention to a persons dignity and self respect we will go far in assisting those who need us. The first and most important step is to leave your parents (or any person you wish to help) with their Dignity, Self Respect and as much Independence as they can handle. Taking things away when they are perfectly capable of still doing them only promotes frustration, anger, and the feeling that your help is what is best for you and not the person you are helping. Remember these are adults who have taken care of themselves quite well for the majority of their lives. Your help may be wanted or seen as interference. Change is one of the most difficult things we as people face especially as we get older. Having said this, I also acknowledge that there are times that there is no other choice than to take
