“You know at some point in life, during time in life we may encounter an individual or a victim of an accident or injury that has an obstructed airway. Hi I’m Captain Joe Bruni. And what we are going to demonstrate and talk about is how to clear the obstructed airway. The obstructed airway can be cleared by using the finger sweep technique. Before we attempt any type of finger sweep technique we have to determine if the airway is actually obstructed. The first thing we would do is tilt the head using the chin lift technique and try to deliver rescue breathes after we look,listen and feel to determine if the victim is exchanging air. If they are not exchanging air because of an airway obstruction, we would deliver two rescue breaths like forcefully, pinching off the nose and covering the patient’s mouth and blowing air down through the airway.
