How Do You Clean Zinc And Stained Glass Mosaics?
Keeping stained-glass mosaics bright and beautiful can be a difficult chore. If your mosaics have zinc plating between the glass sections, you may notice a white, powdery residue settling on the metal surface. You may also find that the glass itself is yellowing or becoming dingy as dirt and dust build up over time. This article contains tips to help you clean your mosaics and restore them to their original state of luster and shine. Cover the stained-glass surfaces with plastic wrap so only the zinc is exposed. Dip a soft cloth in 100 percent pure lemon juice and rub over the zinc surface. Leave the juice on for about 1 hour. Use a non-abrasive soap-and-water solution to wash away the juice from the zinc surface. Rinse and dry completely. Clean the stained-glass portion of the mosaic using either isopropyl alcohol or pure mineral spirits. Dip a soft cloth into the liquid and gently wipe away residue that has built up on the glass. Use a circular motion. Rinse with clear water.
