How Do You Clean Wood Flooring After Ripping Up The Carpet?
Many homes, especially older ones, have wood floors that have been covered up with carpets. To find out what lies beneath, grab a pair of pliers; tug a corner of the carpet out from under the baseboard; and roll it back to uncover several feet. Lift the carpet pad and take a look. If the existing finish is badly scratched, stained or worn, you can expect more of the same on the rest of the floor. If the corner looks good, there is a chance that the floor can be saved and even restored to its former glory. Sweep all loose dirt and debris from the floor once all of the carpet and pad have been removed. Gently scrape up any stuck-down pad with a stiff plastic scraper. Pull up any nails, staples and tack strip that remain. Mop the floor with a damp mop and a solution of oil soap, or water and vinegar. Be careful to keep the mop well wrung out. Do not allow water to pool on the floor. Use a plastic abrasive sponge to gently scrub spots that do not come clean with mopping. Treat stained area
