How Do You Clean Up Outside Corners In Base Molding Installation?

0

Two pieces of base molding on an outside corner don’t always align perfectly. Never fear, though, there are tricks to make the meeting of the moldings as even as possible. Even in cases where walls in a home are not square, you can use certain techniques to clean up the corner. Think ahead to plan for the mitered angle. Instead of measuring the wall and transferring that measurement plus 45 degrees to the molding, measure the inside part of the molding. That way, you’re matching wall length to the inside of the molding. Cut the first piece of molding at a 45-degree angle. Put it in place, but don’t nail it yet. Work on the outside of the angle next. On the neighboring wall, measure up to the edge of the first piece of molding. You don’t want the inside here. You want the second piece of molding to touch the outside tip of the first piece. Cut the second piece of base molding using the same 45-degree angle you used on the first piece. Put the second piece in place, match it to the first
