How Do You Clean & Store A Plumb Bob?
A plumb bob is a tool that is used to maintain straight vertical lines during construction. It has a string that is attached to a weight. Sometimes the string can be wound into a head–or case–of the tool. A plumb bob is hung by a nail at the top of a vertical surface and the weight and string are then allowed to hang. When they stop moving, the top and the bottom are marked. Clean the outside case of the plumb bob gently with a clean rag. Moisten the rag slightly if necessary. Clean the weight with a slightly damp rag if it has become too dirty to just clean with a rag. Allow it to dry before storing to avoid rust. Retract the plumb bob’s string after each use. If your plumb bob is just a string and weight, wrap the string around your hand and when there are about 2 inches left, take it off your hand and wrap the last 2 inches (with the weight) around the string the other way to secure it.
