Marble countertops are elegant and luxurious but are highly susceptible to stains. Marble can be stained by highly acidic substances, such as coffee or juice and can also develop streaking and marks from water. Cleaning a marble countertop requires extra care, as certain cleaning chemicals may actual damage the surface. Mix baking soda with warm water. Dampen the cloth with the solution. Wipe the marble with the cloth, scrubbing if necessary. Allow counter to air dry for two hours. Wipe down counter with clear, warm water to rinse. Dry counter completely with a soft, absorbent cloth. Clean etched marble by dipping a damp cloth into tin dioxide powder. Rub onto etched area in small, circular motions, applying a small amount of pressure. Rinse the area with clean water and a sponge and dry thoroughly.
