How Do You Clean Soft Solder On Jewelry?
Soft solder on jewelry is exactly what it says it is, soft. When cleaning soft solder, abrasives are out altogether. What you’ll really need is something of a tarnish remover, because if you score or damage the solder, the jewelry that it’s holding may become detached. So, being careful is the watchword here. Dip the end of your cloth into water so that it is wet. You need it to be thoroughly damp at least on the part of the cloth that will be cleaning the jewelry. However, wring it out so that it is not sodden. Dip the cloth into the silver polish. Get a good smear of polish on the cloth, but do not overdo it. A huge glob of polish will not make the cleaning process easier. A thick layer that is not globular should be fine. Gently rub the silver polish over the soft solder on your jewelry, taking great care not to hook prongs while you are doing this. If possible, avoid the stone as well.
