How Do You Clean & Seal A Granite Countertop?
Granite countertops can stay looking new for years with proper care. Unfortunately, many people make the mistake of using generic household cleaners on their granite countertops, which degrade the sealer. The best plan of action is to adopt a weekly, quarterly and yearly cleaning schedule for your countertop. In addition to the cleaning schedule, use a sealer to prevent spills from staining the marble. Use stone soap as part of your weekly maintenance routine. Stone soap, which can be purchased at your local hardware or home store, won’t break down the sealer like regular cleaning products. Avoid using too much cleaner, though, because it will leave a film. Treat each stain or spill with a corresponding cleaning solution. Oil-based stains like grease can be taken out with mineral spirits, organic stains like coffee may be taken out with hydrogen peroxide, and biological stains like mildew can be taken out with half a cup of water and a few drops of ammonia.
