How Do You Clean & Preserve Wood Paneling?
Wood paneling is is a low-maintenance wall covering that can provide warmth and beauty in any room. But to keep it looking its best, proper cleaning and care is required. Wood is porous and can be damaged by moisture, but most paneling is sealed with a protective layer of varnish or polyurethane. This makes it safe to clean the paneling without fear of damaging it. Dust the paneling thoroughly from top to bottom with a soft, dry cloth, or the brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Inspect the wood for any areas where the finish is damaged or cracked and repair it with a coat of polyurethane. Allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and 1/2 cup of liquid dish detergent to make a homemade cleaning solution. Add 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil for additional shine.
