Pools provide many hours of fun and entertainment, but they need regular cleaning for safety and proper maintenance. Oils, dirt and debris can combine and form a scum along the tile walls. This residue can cause dirt to settle into the small pores in the walls and begin forming organic colonies. Pool equipment, such as the pump basket, skimmer box, and filter, require cleaning as well to keep the water circulating properly. Remove scum, such as calcium scale or algae, on the pool tiles by scrubbing the tiles with a handheld tile brush. If the scum persists, apply a nonabrasive cleaner to the tiles according to the manufacturer’s directions, and then scrub the area with the tile brush until the tiles are clean.
