Glass is plated with “silvering” through an electroplating process. When chemicals or moisture gets to the back of the silvering, it can break down the bond that the glass and sliver has and the silvering will chip away. There are a few ways to prevent this 1st you can request that we seal the edges, sealing the edges can help prevent damage. The 2nd way to prevent damage to silvering is to allow air to get to the back of the mirror so that moisture and cleaners cannot get trapped behind the mirror. The 3rd way is to use only non-ammonia cleaners and only spray just enough cleaner to clean the glass not soak it. Often in time, especially older non-electroplated mirrors, the silvering will eventually lose its bond with the glass.
