Save yourself some money and gigantic headache by cleaning out the trap yourself. Here are some easy to follow instructions on cleaning out your sink’s trap. Find and identify the trap. Look directly underneath the sink either in the cabinet below or just under it. The drain pipe will come down and about eight inches to a foot below the drain, the pipe makes a “U” shape. That is your sink’s trap. Identify the type of pipe used and the type of connection used to secure the trap in place. The pipe will either be PVC pipe or a metal pipe.
