How Do You Clean Oil Spills On Asphalt?
Oil stains not only affect the appearance of an asphalt drive, but they can also cause permanent damage, according to newspaper columnist Tim Carter of Ask the Builder. It may not be visible right away, but over time the oil will cause the asphalt to erode and soften. Oil stains on certain surfaces, such as concrete, can be tackled with a solvent. But solvents are far too strong for asphalt and will erode the surface. The safest bet, according to Carter and HomeTips, is to just use plain old soap and water to remove the stains. If you notice the stain right away, apply some cat litter to absorb the oil, then sweep it up and discard. Apply liquid dish soap or detergent to the oil stain. Add enough water from a watering can or garden hose to create soap suds. Use a scrub brush or push broom to scrub the soap against the stain. Rinse the spot with water. If you still see remnants of oil in the water after you have rinsed, repeat Steps 2 through 4. If you cannot remove the stain with soap
