Junk can accumulate on a computer faster than you may realize and cleaning should be part of your routine maintenance. Cleaning the junk off the PC is simple, although it can be time consuming if you haven’t done it before. This article assumes Windows XP is being used, but these steps can easily be modified for Windows 2000. Clean your temporary internet files. In Internet Explorer go to the “Tools” menu and choose “Internet Options.” On the General Tab under “Browsing History” select “Delete.” A new ‘Delete Browsing History” box appears. Under “Temporary Internet Files,” select “Delete Files.” Under “Cookies,” select “Delete Cookies.” Delete “History” if you do not need to view old pages you have visited. Delete “Form Data” to clear any saved information you have used to fill out forms on the web. Alternately you can choose “Delete All” at the bottom of the page.
